ABOUT US
Supporting our students’ pursuit of excellence and
joy in the art of classical ballet

The Dance Academy was establish in 2011 by our Founder, Reiko M. Cheung, as a boutique ballet school to foster excellence in dance in the United Arab Emirates. Our school is open to passionate and dedicated students from three years old to adults. We provide the necessary foundations for students who might wish to pursue full-time ballet training or a career in the arts but also for those who enjoy dancing as a hobby.

Our curriculum is developmentally sound and emphasizes strong technique, kineasthetic awareness and artistry. The Dance Academy does not follow any single syllabus but focuses instead on building technique and artistry at a pace that suits the individual student. Our curriculum embraces traditional ballet principles and incorporates elements of the French, Italian and Russian training systems. We work hard to emphasize correct placement, body awareness and healthy movement. Classes of repertoire, character and contemporary dance are introduced at the appropriate level and students have the opportunity to participate in solo preparation for competitions, mid-year performance opportunities and our end of year theatre performance.

Children’s classes are capped to ensure it is possible for our expert and professionally trained teachers to give the individual attention to detail required to develop each student’s ballet technique correctly and safely.

Our studios are spacious, flooded with natural light and professionally equipped with fully sprung Harlequin dance flooring, barres and mirrors, providing our students with the best possible facilities to dance.

Our Founder

The Dance Academy, (formerly known as Dubai Dance Academy) was founded by Reiko M. Cheung in 2011 as a boutique school for excellence in ballet training. Reiko received her early ballet training in Japan and at age 18 was the winner of a prestigious Japanese competition that awarded her a scholarship to further her training in Paris. From there she performed across the world for more than 20 years as a professional ballerina, before retiring to focus on teaching. Reiko was a life-long supporter of the arts and passionate about sharing this with her students.
